The Hyundai Tucson is the automaker’s most popular crossover SUV platform. When the 2022 Hyundai Tucson in Waco, TX begins to arrive at the Greg May Hyundai showroom in the spring of 2021, it will feature a brand-new design that will allow for more passenger space and cargo volume. Additionally, the 2022 Tucson will be the vehicle’s first model year that will offer hybrid powertrain options. Hyundai engineers are using the occasion of the compact crossover SUV’s redesign to implement additional major upgrades to the connectivity equipment that will be standard in all four primary trim grades, SE, SEL, N-Line and Limited. Customers interested in the redesigned 2022 Hyundai Tucson will start their crossover SUV journey with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine under the hood that will be attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front- and all-wheel-drive configurations are available. These versions of the new family-friendly platform will produce 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will employ a turbocharged 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine attached to the Hyundai hybrid system. These models will make 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.  

When the 2022 Tucson is compared to the 2021 model, it will be a little more than 6 inches longer and just more than a half-inch wider and taller. All of the small adjustments made to the vehicle’s dimensions will result in an additional 7.7 cubic-feet of cargo volume and about 6 cubic-feet of overall passenger volume. The gas-powered models of the 2022 Tucson can offer up to 73.8 cubic-feet of cargo volume when the rear seat is folded down. As much as 38.7 cubic-feet can be used when people are sitting in the backseat. Hyundai has yet to publish complete cargo specs for the new hybrid models. However, we know that they will be close to what the gas-powered versions has to offer. 

Connectivity and Safety Features 

Just about every crossover SUV available today will have a smartphone-compatible infotainment system. However, the 2022 Tucson will be one of the few vehicles in its class that will allow Android and Apple smartphone uses to connect to the respective suites of apps wirelessly. Hyundai is making five active safety system standard equipment, including forward collision alert, lake keeping assist and automatic high beams.
