2021 Hyundai Accent: The Best Kept Secret Below $17,000

Since its debut for the 2018 model year, the Hyundai Accent has continued to provide the best overall value among compact sedans. With its incredibly low starting MSRP, excellent fuel efficiency, and attractive exterior styling, the 2021 Hyundai Accent is an ideal choice for buyers who will stop at nothing to find the best bang for their buck.

Priced at $16,400, the Hyundai Accent SE is among the most affordable new vehicles you can purchase in 2021. At that price point, you may think you’d have to revert to the automotive stone age and accept undesirable features such as crank-up manual windows and other lesser amenities. But with the Accent SE, Hyundai engineers went above and beyond to ensure that won’t be the case.

Generous Suite of Standard Amenities

The base trim Accent is loaded with standard features and technology that simply weren’t available in vehicles starting at this price point in years past.

Among those standard features is a five-inch color touchscreen display AM/FM/CD/MP3 player, Bluetooth hands-free phone system and rearview camera with dynamic guidelines. A quality infotainment system is certainly desired by today’s interconnected drivers, so having the ability to take calls via Bluetooth and listen to music via smartphone, USB or MP3 input jacks is paramount.

You can rest assured—there are no manual crank-up windows here. Power windows, power door locks, cruise control, power adjustable exterior mirrors, and steering wheel mounted audio controls are standard amenities. Like all Accent trims, cloth seating surfaces are standard attire—with a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback.

2021 Hyundai Accent Powertrain and Fuel Efficiency

The 2021 Hyundai Accent is powered by the same naturally aspirated 1.6L four-cylinder engine in all three trims. Rated at 120 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque, the small displacement I4 offers plenty of pep for the lightweight 2,500-pound (M/T) Accent and never feels underpowered. For those of you who prefer to row your own gears, you’re certainly in luck—as the Accent SE is available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The manual gearbox is actually standard equipment on the 2021 Accent SE and not available on any other trim. When paired with the 1.6L I4, the six-speed Accent yields an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

A more-efficient Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission is also available on the Accent SE for an additional $1100. The automatic transmission yields a +3 combined mpg advantage over the manual gearbox—with an EPA-estimated 33-mpg city and 41-mpg city fuel economy rating.

Room for the Entire Family

Despite its compact size, the Accent provides a spacious 33.5-inches of rear legroom. That is sure to make road trips in the vehicle far more comfortable for all passengers—where gear can be stored in the spacious trunk that provides 13.7 cubic-feet of cargo storage.

The 2021 Hyundai Accent SE is proof that you don’t need to break the bank to purchase a quality new vehicle. While you might forgo some of the finer creature comforts that are offered on more generously appointed Hyundai models, the Accent is a responsible, affordable, and efficient choice that you can feel confident about.
